Aerial Live Line Work

Chopper Worx Solutions has been actively involved in the field of High Voltage (HV) power line repairs and preventative maintenance operations for many years. Our personnel are specifically skilled to work in the energised environment of transmission power lines, ranging from 132kV – 765kV.

By matching specific techniques to applications, we are able to provide cost effective solutions in the safest and fastest way. Typical methods employed include the suspension (external load) and helicopter platform mounted method, both of which are also used by other prominent helicopter utility operators worldwide. Aerial Live Work techniques include replacement and repair of hardware on mid-span phase-conductors, ground wire and towers.

Powerline inspections: With our multi tasking helicopter platform fitted with a 4-axis active gyro stabilized gimbal camera platform, we carry out diagnostic power line patrols

• Hot spots anomalies captured with a Digital Radiometric Infra-Red camera.
• Corona radiation captured with a Bi Spectral UV camera.
• HD video of selected tower hardware.
• High Resolution (24Mp) still digital imagery of every tower position and of each type of defect found.
• The captured data is integrated into an interfaced report (soft and hard copies)
• Immediate, real-time feedback is supplied to the customer for priority defects, which if acted upon, will lead to the prevention of a breakdown.
• Experienced linesmen oversee work in real time.
• In excess of 500 km per week can be covered by air, depending on prevailing conditions.
